As Milosevic comes to trial for war crimes, Brendan Simms focuses again on the war in Bosnia and on the world’s response to it. He asks whether the international community could have averted this tragedy, or at least have brought the Bosnian war to a speedier conclusion. He also questions whether the British government bears responsibility for policies that led to the prolonging of the bloodiest European conflict since the Second World War.

About the author

Brendan Simms is Professor of the History of International Relations in the Centre of International Studies at the University of Cambridge. A Fellow of Peterhouse, he lectures and leads seminars on international history since 1945. His research focuses on the history of European foreign policy and he has written a variety of books and articles on this subject, including Unfinest Hour: Britain and the Destruction of Bosnia (2001) and Three Victories and a Defeat: The Rise and Fall of the First British Empire,1714-1783 (2007).
