The Prize announces the key dates for 2024

The UK’s premier non-fiction book prize, the Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-Fiction, today, Thursday 18 July, announces the 2024 prize cycle dates.

The longlist for the 2024 Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-Fiction award will be announced at 9am on Thursday 5 September, via desk release and on the Baillie Gifford Prize website and social channels.

The 12 books on the longlist will be chosen by this year’s judges: journalist, broadcaster and founder of China Dialogue, Isabel Hilton (chair), author and investigative journalist Heather Brooke, comment and culture editor for New Scientist Alison Flood, culture editor of Prospect Peter Hoskin, writer and critic Tomiwa Owolade, and author and food and TV critic Chitra Ramaswamy.

Other key dates:

  • Shortlist: Thursday 10 October
  • Winner: Tuesday 19 November

The winner will be announced at an award ceremony generously supported by the Blavatnik Family Foundation. This winner announcement will also be livestreamed across the Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-Fiction social channels.

Last year’s winner was John Vaillant Fire Weather: A True Story from a Hotter World.
